About

The first thing you need to know about me is I’m an atheist. Religion has never made sense to me, I do not even have my little toe in the agnostic pool. I have a disbelief of deities, and a dislike of many of the main principles of organised religions.

Another thing you should probably know about me is I’m married to a Muslim. We met in Egypt in 2008, and now live in England with our son.

I cannot say he has absolutely nothing to do with what I plan to explore, but I can say it wasn’t his idea, and 99% of the time our different views on the world doesn’t cause a problem.

Before meeting my husband, Sam, I was very much in the atheist forum “scene”. My main, in fact only, focus was Christianity. I have read the bible, and used that knowledge to ridicule all religions. My militant atheist ways mellowed when actually meeting and falling in love with a religious man. For the first time I was being told about Islam. Four years on and I still feel as if I am just touching on the surface, I haven’t even managed to read the Quran!

During my random googling, I can across a site for a new type of holiday: http://muslimforamonth.com/ You fly off and spend just over a week (the holiday name is misleading) learning and embracing Islam- conversion is not part of the deal. This is open to all, religious and us heathens.  But do you really need to spend over £600, flights not included, to fully dive into a new religion and learn what it may have to offer?

I don’t think so.

A muslim for a month, an actual month, inEngland, shouldn’t be a problem… Right?

lots of luck to you. if not anything else, i hope for you to gain something positive out of this experiment! i have a friend of mine, non muslim, who will be fasting for experience as well! HAPPY FASTING! xo
will you be praying or reading qur’an as well? i think reading the qur’an (1 part per day for 30 days) will add even more authenticity to your experience! xo
